The best horse that ever was ... was a best friend, a great listener, someone who never judged you or yelled at you, someone who was always happy to see you no matter what day it was, someone who loved you unconditionally even when you weren't in the greatest mood. He was someone that helped you get over your greatest fears and gave you confidence you could do anything. Dusty was all of this and more to me which is why today I can't stop crying my eyes out. Over the last few weeks he developed Laminitis and although I got to see him hobble around this weekend I thought he'd get better, just like he always did. I never thought yesterday would be the last time I would ever give him a carrot or a big hug around his neck. For someone who's never had a horse or an animal they don't understand the pain of losing a family member like this, and Dusty was our oldest family member. I know he's not in pain and he's in a better place right now, but that doesn't mean I won't miss him every single day. I don't know if my mom will ever get another horse. Dusty was the best and he was more like a big dog than a horse ... he was our Mr. Ed. So I cherish the memories we had and the friendship that he gave me in some of the most lonely years of my life. He was always up for a ride to listen to me ramble on, and I loved him so so much. I hope my grandma will look out for him in horsey heaven. R.I.P Dusty ... I love you and you'll never be forgotten because you truly were the best horse that ever was ...
