Ghost Run 5K 1st Place ...

1st Place in my age group for the 5K Ghost Run!!! My time was minutes away from my "goal time" but one of my goals was to win my age group (women's 22-29). When I crossed the line off my goal time I didn't even bother checking the official race results until my mom came over and said Melis you won!?!? .... what? I won :) Ahhh it was worth it. So we waited around for my shiny new North Palm Beach medal and a $25 gift card for Park Avenue, which was basically winning back my registration and putting it towards some ribs ... anything better than that ... um no. After the race I got an email that said there were 29 people in my age group and 157 people in the race. I was 59th overall. The winning time was 16:57 ... are you kidding me? I think that was my time BEFORE the 2 mile mark and this guy was done? Crazy ... Well Thanks to my mom, phil, and Levi who all came out to support me race!! It was def. an EARLY saturday morning and I was happy to have them both there to watching my pain and suffering ... uhh I mean my running ability =) This race did give me a goal, get my butt in shape, and got me into a pair of jeans I haven't worn since college this year. Also big props to my husband the official photographer who snapped a bunch of great photo's ... way to go Phil! So here are a few from race day ...

Yes ... I'm Done!!

Nice Job!!! Phil and I (mostly Phil) made this for his conference in Fort Pierce. He had the idea and got all the materials, he really only needed me for my handwriting. It was a fun project =)

Octoberfest

Sunday we headed down to Lantana for Octoberfest at the German/American Club. It was fun to listen to the music, sample the different beers and get full on food and fried stuff =) Below is my favorite picture from the whole day when my dad and I brought all the fried stuff to the table, my dad smiling, phil thinking "what is this?" and my mom in complete disgust that we are going to be so unhealthy hahahhaa...

This is Phil's "German Smile" ... haha

Celebrate Good Times ...

This morning my mom and I participated in the Breast Cancer Walk For the Cure ... or strides against break cancer ... whichever the title was it was a fun morning! Mom got on her "team" from her massage lady who works for the rehabilitation center my mom used to attend after all her surgeries. It was fun to see all the people who turned out for the walk and all the ladies who were high five-ing my mom for being a survivor! Anytime you hear about cancer in the news its usually negative, someone else who is diagnosed or someone who's lost there battle ... this morning was to celebrate those who are survivors and was such a positive message. I walked for my mom and my grandma and my mom walked for herself and also her mom. A little emotional at times because I know we still miss my grandma Enid everyday. Plus pink was her all time favorite color so she would have been all decked out for that walk!!! So here's to my mom, the most amazing woman I know, a fighter, a survivor, a positive outlook on life & hope for the future ... I look forward to many more walks to come! Love you Mom! :)

7 days ...

Next Saturday is the big day ... My first 5K since ohhhh high school! Last Saturday I did a test run before I registered to make sure I could actually run 3 miles without keeling over. This was my time ... yes I took a picture because I was pretty pumped about the time and proud of myself. A good starting point ... we'll see what next Saturday morning holds ...

In Training ...

Phil and I are "in training" for the 5K "Ghost Run" in our neighborhood on October 25th. We mapped out a 3 mile loop for a practice run and if we both make the practice run on Saturday then we'll sign up for the real thing. Stay tuned ...

Chillin' on the farm with Jackie. I may not like her as a donkey but she likes getting her picture taken so that makes me like her a little more ...
